Good morning!
I can’t believe this is the final week of online learning! I just want to take this time to tell ALL of you how incredibly proud I am of how you have embraced this change, and have continued to engage with your learning! I have been truly impressed with your genuine interest in the learning activities posted on our class website and I have been inspired by your willingness to use this time to explore and engage in your own interests and passions over the past few months. I have really enjoyed talking about the different things you have been doing with your time at home! Hearing stories of building projects, helping around the house, cooking dinner and baking, acquiring new pets, camping, spending quality time with family, playing card games, creating art- are just a few of the many cool things you have shared with me! I know this is not how any of us thought our school year together would end, but I am truly thankful for all of the great days and all of the time we got to spend together this year! Looking through some photos, I am reminded of all of the fun things we were able to do together-even if our time was cut short! Playing basketball and dancing outside during Joy Time on Day 6, working on projects like your commercials, persuasive writing letters, science experiments, math explorations and Lego Robots are some of my favorites. Memories of the Fall Ball at Halloween, Christmas Concert, Welcome to Our Crib, Skiing at Ross Creek and our Human Rights/Forks skating field trip are also some of my highlights for this year! Just some reminders, we will have our last class Zoom meeting this Friday, at 1:00. I will send the link later on in the week. I will be in touch with each of you in the next few days to discuss our plan regarding the remainder of June and our Grade 6 Farewell. Talk soon, -Mrs. Conway

Good morning!
I hope everyone is well! Just a reminder that shoes, supplies and belongings are ready to be picked up today and tomorrow. Please come on the day assigned to your YOUNGEST child. If you have any questions please let me know! Although all belongings are being picked up, please know that I will continue to post activities and learning ideas to our website for next week, June 8-June 12. After next week, I will be in contact with you to discuss how things will look moving forward for the remainder of June. We are also still looking at how to best celebrate our fantastic Grade 6 students before the end of the school year-so stay tuned! I miss seeing everyone! I can't wait for our next class Zoom on Friday June 12th! I will send the invite closer to the date. Until next time, Mrs. Conway What a Wonderful World!Good morning! I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend, and were able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather! We are starting our Diversity of Living Things Unit this week, so I hope that as you are spending more time outside and in nature, you will take the time to appreciate and notice all of the amazing sights, sounds and smells that surround us. Our world is bursting with of a vast array of living things, full of similarities and differences, and all unique in their own way. Curiosity and paying close attention to detail, are great ways to begin to understand some of the organisms that make up our world. I challenge you to spend sometime keeping a nature journal (or creating homemade field guides)-to ask questions, draw your observations, keep notes and record your research and findings. Examples:
Can you sketch a living thing, and use a field guide to identify what species it is? How do certain species behave and adapt to their environment? What do they look like and why? How do they develop? Why is each species important? Why are organisms so diverse? How do all living things interact in an ecosystem and work together in the web of life? Scientists estimate there are approximately 9 million species of organisms in our world and it is thought that many of them haven’t even been discovered yet! There is still so much to discover and learn! If you are interested in our natural world and are looking for a new book, here is one of my favorite reads. It is about a girl named Calpurnia Tate-who has big dreams of becoming a naturalist, even though she is born at a time that women are not able to work outside of the home. I hope you read it and it inspires you to continue with your nature journal! Until next time,
Mrs. Conway MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!!!! I hope all of the Star Wars fans out there, enjoy today! I know my household will be taking part in some Star Wars activities! I have included some different ideas to check out. Even if you are not the biggest Star Wars fan, riddles are always fun! If you are still looking for more ideas or crafts, I liked some of the ideas on this website. "Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is."-YODA
Until next time, Mrs. Conway Do You Hear That? If you haven’t had a chance to get out and look for tadpoles yet-I encourage you to give it a try! I have fond memories of doing this as a kid, and I still enjoy the excitement of spotting some in the water! I also like to stop and listen to the calling sounds of frogs. I have attached the links to some pretty neat websites (click on the buttons below). The first website has lots of information about how to find tadpoles. If you are really ambitious, it also outlines how you can raise them from tadpoles to froglets, and how you can study the transformation that occurs in their various stages, before releasing them back into their habitat. If this is too long of a process for you, you can scroll down the page and there is an interesting 7-minute video that shows you this transformation. I really enjoyed watching it, and so did my 7-year-old son! I also like the second website, it talks about the different frogs found in Manitoba. If you click on the learn more tab under each one, there are sound clips that you can listen to, and you can hear what each frog sounds like. If you spot or find a frog on your adventures, take a picture of what you find, and then check this website. Can you identify what type of frog it is?
I would love to see pictures of your adventures and discoveries! Until next time, Mrs. Conway Happy Monday!
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! Here is a fun exercise challenge to get everyone moving, on this beautiful sunny day!
Ready, Set, Go! Until next time, Mrs. Conway EARTH DAY 2020 Earth Day is this Wednesday, April 22, 2020! The first Earth Day was held in 1970, so this year marks the 50th anniversary of this important day. Earth Day is important because it raises awareness about the impact that our actions have on our environment and Earth as a whole. Earth Day is celebrated all over the world. Throughout the week take a look at the videos I have posted and see if you can check off any of the activities on the “Bucket List,” that I found from Chickabug.com. Click on the image to view a larger image on the website. I also challenge you to write down 3 actions that you would like to do to help our environment. I read the 50 Actions for the Earth Poster and these are the top 3 things I want to do:
Even though we celebrate Earth Day on April 22, we can do our part-big or small, everyday to take care of our planet, because really, everyday is Earth Day! Until next time, Mrs. Conway Hi 6C Families!
If you are looking for something extra, different or fun this is the place to check out! As there are so many ideas floating around during this time, I am going to use this spot to post interesting, helpful, useful or fun "stuff" that I come across. Take a look-but no pressure! Try out activities that you find interesting and inspiring, and leave the things that you don't! If you have found something, or have done something that you think others might enjoy-send it my way! I will post it here to share with everyone! J.W. shared this with me yesterday. He went on a drive with his family and brought along this bingo challenge. I love the idea of exploring our "backyard"-keeping social distancing in mind, of course! :) Until next time, Mrs. Conway |
